I'm actually off to a bad start. This is actually my break at midnight as I study for an abnormal psychology midterm. But a fun break! I like interviews about myself. Does that make me sound conceited?

The Summer Blogger Promo Tour is an annual tour hosted by The Book Bratz, where we feature a different blogger each Sunday in July and August. Today we have an interview with Zoey Talbon from Uncreatively Zoey in order to get to know her and her blog better! We're so happy to have her featured on our blog.

1. Tell us about yourself! :D

 I'm currently 19 and studying zoology and waiting to get out of Wisconsin. There was, of course, a time I planned to work in publishing, but we somehow ended up here. Interests include cats, coffee, candles, and corgis. (And books. Obviously.) 

2. What got you into book blogging and how did you come up with the name Uncreatively Zoey for your blog?

I didn't start out as a book blog. I mostly just posted stuff I wrote or one of the 800 ideas I had at the time. But honestly? I have no idea why I started blogging about books. Everyone has these cool stories about how it happened or who inspired them, but I honestly cannot remember. Which is boring, I know. As for the title? It was originally called Zoey's Uncreatively Titled Blog because I was like, 14 when I created it. When I finally started blogging again, I cringed every time I read it. So I wanted to change to something shorter and slightly more professional, and ended up with Uncreatively Zoey. Still recognizable from what it was before, but not as silly sounding. Not that it's much better this way, haha. 

3. So this will probably be the hardest bookish question for any book blogger, but what is your all time favorite book? Just one!

WHY DOES ANYONE ASK THIS QUESTION ANYMORE? NO. NOPE. All three of the currently released books in The Raven Cycle series. 

4. What is your favorite thing about blogging?

My favorite thing about blogging is how many books I've discovered that I don't think I would have otherwise. Sure, I knew about Goodreads before, but there's only so much I would have found on there. I don't know that I ever would have read Stephanie Perkins if I hadn't been a blogger, and Anna and the French Kiss is now definitely among my absolute favorite reads. Bloggers everywhere - even ones who didn't usually read contemporary - swore up and down that it was fantastic, so eventually I caved and read it. Now I reread it at least once a year, probably. Blogging is especially important when it comes to contemporary for me. I'm much more of a fantasy reader, so I really rely on the blogging community to find contemporaries I think I'll enjoy. I finally bought Huntley Fitzpatrick's books a few days ago because of the community and can't wait to start them!

Well hello there! My name is Nori and I’m a book blogger, but I guess you know that already. ;) Hmm, well I have a party poodle named Ellie Mae and I adore her. :) In my spare time, when I’m not reading or writing, you can find me on the computer, watching anime, playing tennis, or organizing- something! I am obsessed with organization, especially online! I love spreadsheets and...well this is getting to be a bizarre introduction. Oops! Okay, so random facts: I like chocolate AND vanilla, I like coffee AND tea, and my favorite color is purple. :)

2. What got you into book blogging?
I actually was debating about starting a blog for a while, and it was going to be a general blog at first. But at the time of starting my blog, I realized that it would be really fun to share my love of reading with everyone else, and so I decided to make it a book blog!

3. So this will probably be the hardest bookish question for any book blogger, but what is your all time favorite book? Just one!
What? No. No. This question should be illegal...There are SO many to choose- how can you force me to pick just one? *ponders* Okay, if I had to pick JUST one, it would probably be Carpe Diem by Autumn Cornwell. It’s a hidden gem. READ IT.

4. What is your favorite thing about blogging?
Easy! It’s 100% the community. When I started blogging, I had no idea how huge and loving the book community was. I have made so many incredible friends from blogging, and I am extremely grateful for that. I LOVE YOU ALL! <3

Interview with Amy Patrick

Where did the idea for HIDDEN DEEP come from?

 I’m that girl who read the Lord of the Rings trilogy 17 times back to back in middle school, so I’ve always been a big fan of fantasy books and movies. Of course, I realized that LOTR was actually a love story—what? You don’t think so? Well, I was really into the Arwen/Aragorn story line, and I loved the idea of a great love between people of different sorts—one immortal and magical, the other human. HIDDEN DEEP takes place in rural Mississippi, beginning in the woods surrounding the log house where Ryann lives with her mom and grandma. Something incredible happened when Ryann was lost in those woods as a child ten years earlier and it leads to a connection between star-crossed lovers that refuses to go away. 

Are any of the places or people in the book based on real life?

 I grew up in Mississippi (with a few years in Texas, too) and my great-grandmother had a cabin on many, many acres of woodland there. I envisioned her place and those mysterious woods when I was writing the story. And the tiny town where Ryann and her friends live and go to school (Deep River) is based on the town where I went to high school, Water Valley. As far as people… not exactly. But I think bits of our past and our relationships throughout life do find their way into most authors’ stories. When I picture Lad in my mind, he bears a striking resemblance to Liam Hemsworth. And why not? 

Any plans for more books? What are you working on now? 

Yes! HIDDEN DEEP is the first book in a trilogy, and I’ve already written book two, HIDDEN HEART. It’s in the editing process now. I’ve already seen the cover, which is *fabulous*! I’m also very excited to have a HIDDEN DEEP-related novella coming out in May in a box set with some amazing fellow YA Fantasy authors, including Anthea Sharp, Julia Crane, Alexia Purdy and Jenna E. Johnson. It’s called Faery Tales. My story’s called The Sway. It features a secondary character from Hidden Deep and takes place concurrently in another location—by the end of it, the storylines have converged and you get to see some key scenes from another point of view.

Interview

Alice: Thanks for joining us today, Madeline.  Can we begin by having you tell us how you got into the YA paranormal genre?

Madeline:  I’ve always loved a good ghost story, so when I moved to New England I decided that I’d go ahead and take a ghost hunting class.  I was obsessed with all of those shows on TV, so I figured it would be fun.  As it turned out, it scared the hell out of me.  Not so much the whole, dead Aunt Mary hanging out on the staircase part, but the demons in the attic part.  

By the last week of class, sleep and I were no longer on speaking terms.  So I decided to go ahead and try and write a novel about all of my worst fears and the book was born. 

Alice: Is writing what you’ve wanted to do all your life? 

Madeline:  Yes and no.  I originally wanted to grow up and be the ruler of a small country, but that hasn’t really worked out.

I’ve been writing all of my life, so it’s become a part of me more than a profession, per se.

Alice: I would love to know more about your character, May Krieg.  Would you like to tell us about her?

Madeline:  She’s a teen who feels a bit like an outsider. She lives in a wealthy suburb and she’s the girl who has to shop at second-hand stores and doesn’t have the money to drop on weekly manicures and things, but she’s quirky and always the first to volunteer to work at a soup kitchen or make lunch for the homeless. 

She’s also a bit naïve and can be a bit too quick about drawing up assumptions about people.  That being said, even though she’s not in with the popular kids, she’s extremely devoted to the friends that she does have and would walk through fire for the people she cares about. 

Alice: Who is Jack?

Madeline:  He’s the “it” boy.  He’s got the money and the looks and the charm to rule the world.

But on the inside he’s broken.  His mother has passed away and his dad is never around, and throws money at him in the hopes that it will replace any actual parenting that he should be doing.  He’s left to his own devices all the time, so he has become very self-sufficient but also a bit cold on the outside.  He’s slow to warm up to people because on the inside he’s worried that they’ll just abandon him the way his parents have.

Alice: What are you working on now?

Madeline:  The sequel to DAUGHTER OF THE FALLEN.  The book ends on a hook so I have to make sure readers aren’t left in the dark for too long!

Alice: Is there anything you’d like to say to your fans and readers?

Madeline:  Thank you so much for reading!  I love hearing from readers, so please feel free to reach out!
